When is the last time you read Oh, the Places You'll Go! by Dr. Seuss? It always tends to bring a tear to my eye and inspire me for the next things I am going to face in life. It is a perfect gift for graduates, and ever since my mother gifted me a copy of the book filled with signatures from my family, friends, and teachers at my high school graduation, I have wanted to throw an Oh the Places You'll Go graduation party. I finally had the chance recently, and found that an Oh the Places You'll Go party is a super fun, colorful, and sentimental theme. I've got all the details for you in today's post to help you plan your own Dr. Seuss graduation theme party, including iconic Oh the Places You'll Go quotes to print, Oh the Places You'll Go decorations, party food ideas, Oh the Places You'll Go party favors, and lots of free Oh the Places You'll Go printables for your party. You'll want to pin this one for your own special grad!

Oh, the Places You'll Go Graduation Party Color Scheme
The color scheme for this Oh, the Places You'll Go party is inspired by the art on the book's cover, which includes pastel shades of yellow, blue, orange, green, purple, and pink. I found that searching for "pastel rainbow" supplies helped me find the perfect Oh, the Places You'll Go party decorations. Unicorn party accessories work well with this color scheme, too.
Oh, the Places You'll Go Quotes for Party Signs
Since the book contains so many inspiring lines, a big component of our party décor were framed Oh, the Places You'll Go quotes (listed below). I framed the quotes in IKEA 8″x10″ FISKBO frames in light blue and light pink, which worked really well with the party color scheme.
Framed Oh, the Places You'll Go quotes (get the links to the free printable quotes for framing in the Oh, the Places You'll Go Printables section towards the end of this post):
Kid, you'll move mountains!
This is one of the best quotes from the book, and perfect for an inspiring piece of party décor.
You're off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting.
So…get on your way!
You'll be on your way up!
You'll be seeing great sights!
You'll join the high fliers who soar to high heights.
Other Oh, the Places You'll Go! quotes (I didn't end up printing and framing these ones, but they were other good contenders):
- Wherever you fly, you'll be the best of the best.
- Ready for anything under the sky.
- There is fun to be done!
Oh, the Places You'll Go Party Guestbook
Inspired by what my mother did for my high school graduation, the party guestbook is a hardback copy of the Oh, the Places You'll Go! book by Dr. Seuss. Put it on display with some acid-free markers for party guests to leave a special message for the grad.
The guestbook table sign (see the link to the free printable in the Printables section later in this post) was framed in a 4″x6″ IKEA TOLSBY frame (sadly, these frames are no longer on sale at IKEA, but you can get some in bulk on Amazon here).
Oh, the Places You'll Go Decorations
Our Oh the Places You'll Go decorations utilized the rainbow pastel color scheme and other Seussian touches.
Oh, the Places You'll Go Graduation Party Backdrop
The Oh, the Places You'll Go! Backdrop was central to the party decoration. Here is what we used to create the backdrop display:
- Pastel rainbow metallic fringe
- Oh, the Places You'll Go! printable sign (get the link to the free printable in the Oh, the Places You'll Go Printables section below)
- Pastel rainbow tissue pom pom flowers
- Pastel rainbow tissue tassels (I didn't use the metallic one)
- Assorted pastel balloons
Oh, the Places You'll Go Graduation Party Table Setting
The table setting (which was inspired by this Oh, the Places You'll Go baby shower) was also a mix of rainbow pastel components:
- Light yellow tablecloth
- DIY fabric runner cut from this pastel rainbow striped fabric from Joann
- Square lavender plates
- Round light yellow plates
- Cool mint green napkins
- Blush pink plastic utensils
- Blush pink cups
- Pink flower centerpieces
Other Oh, the Places You'll Go Decorations
Pink Flowers. Flowers are a cheery way to liven up party décor. For this Oh, the Places You'll Go graduation party I used pink flowers (an assortment of artificial flowers from IKEA) in vases.
Framed Quotes. The framed signs with the different Oh, the Places You'll Go quotes pictured in the section above were also displayed around (on tables and on walls).
Oh, the Places You'll Go Party Ideas – Food and Drink
What's a party without some food?? Here are the sweets and treats we used for this Dr. Seuss graduation theme.
Oh, the Places You'll Go Party Drinks
Water Bottles with printable labels (get the link to the free printable bottle label in the Oh, the Places You'll Go Printables section at the end of this post).
Oh, the Places You'll Go Party Food
I love using candy melts as an easy way to incorporate the party color scheme in foods (see my Ideas for Candy Melts: 4 Candy Melt Recipes for Parties post for more ways to use candy melts). For this Oh, the Places You'll Go party, I dipped several things in white candy melts, then drizzled pastel candy melts in the other party colors (light pink, orange, light yellow, light green, turquoise, and lavender) over them. I got a little heavy handed at times, as you'll see, but no one seemed to mind.
Candy-Dipped Pretzel Rods
Candy-Dipped Strawberries
Candy-Dipped Mini Pretzels
Rainbow Swirl Cookies. See how to make them here.
Swirl Cupcakes. Decorating the cupcakes with the swirl icing was really easy thanks to this Color Swirl 3-color piping bag coupler set from Wilton. I decorated half the cupcakes with a pink, blue, and yellow swirl, and the other half with an orange, green, and purple swirl. For the toppers, I used the method from my Easy DIY Cupcake Toppers and printable cupcake topper art (get the link to the free printable in the Oh, the Places You'll Go Printables section below).
Cotton Candy Pops. To match with the theme, I made the pops on striped paper straws in pastel colors instead of pop sticks. I think they look very Seussian, like Truffula Trees! To display them, I used this Wilton cardboard Pops Display Stand. The cardboard stand allowed me to make the holes a little bigger to accommodate the size of the straws.
Bacon-Wrapped Lil' Smokies. With all the sweets, we needed something savory that was also easy to grab and eat. These worked perfectly and were easy to make.
As part of the overall food display, I used this white cake stand set plus another white stand that I already had.
The food signs are one of the party printables I made for the event. Get the link to the free printable food signs in the Oh, the Places You'll Go Printables section toward the end of this post.
Oh, the Places You'll Go Party Favors
Oh, the Places You'll Go party favors are a sweet way to send your graduation party guests off at the end of the event. We had the favors on the guestbook table. Here is what we used.
Swirl lollipops with printable sticker labels. Get the link to the free printable in the Oh, the Places You'll Go Printables section below.
Mini candy bars. We wrapped Hershey's Miniatures candies with Oh, the Places You'll Go printable candy wrappers (get the link to the free printable in the Oh, the Places You'll Go Printables section below).
"Get on your way!" bagged earth candies. We found this idea on Pinterest and loved it! The Oh, the Places You'll Go party theme evokes travel, so we shared foil-wrapped earth chocolate candies in a plastic treat bag with a printable favor tag from A Little CLAIREification. Get the link to the free printable tag we used in the Oh, the Places You'll Go Printables section below.
